The Bangladesh Cricket Board has charged four individuals for violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code after investigating the 12th BPL edition. An exclusion order was also issued against a fifth person. Tamim Iqbal calls for fundamental changes to the league.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has issued formal charges against several players, team officials, and franchise owners for allegedly violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. These charges follow a thorough investigation by the Bangladesh Cricket Board Integrity Unit (BCBIU) into the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League T20.
The BCB confirmed in an official statement that the probe covered alleged corrupt conduct, betting activities, failure to cooperate with anti-corruption investigations, and attempts to obstruct the investigation process. It's a big move that shows they're serious about cleaning up the game.
### Who Has Been Charged and What Are the Allegations
Four people are named in the charges. Md. Lablur Rahman, a team manager, faces two charges. The first is under Article 2.4.6 for allegedly failing to cooperate with an investigation and not complying with a demand notice. The second is under Article 2.4.7 for allegedly obstructing the investigation, including the deletion or concealment of relevant communications.
Md. Towhidul Haque Towhid, a co-owner of the franchise, has been charged with the same two articles for similar actions. Domestic cricketer Amit Mojumder and team manager Rezwan Kabir Siddique have been charged under Article 2.2.1, which is about placing or entering into bets related to cricket matches.
All four have been provisionally suspended and have 14 days from receiving their notice of charge to respond to the allegations. The BCB has said it will not comment further on the issue at this stage.
### BCB Issues Exclusion Order Against a Fifth Individual
Separately from the four formal charges, the BCB issued an Exclusion Order against Saminur Rahman under its Excluded Person Policy. This followed an investigation into alleged corrupt activities spanning multiple editions of the BPL, specifically the ninth, tenth, and eleventh seasons.
The investigation revealed alleged betting-related activities, corrupt methods of dealing with players and agents, and contact with people involved in domestic and international betting and corruption networks. Rahman was also accused of being involved in corrupt activities in cricket matches.
Following the service of a notice of intended exclusion, Rahman chose not to submit a response and accepted the exclusion order. The order bars him from all cricketing activities globally.
> "This is a significant step in our fight against corruption," said Alex Marshall, Independent Chair of the BCB Integrity Unit. "We don't just focus on players; we go after everyone involved in betting-related fixing, including team owners and managers."
### Tamim Iqbal Calls for Fundamental Changes to the BPL
BCB interim head Tamim Iqbal, who spoke hours after the charges were announced, was not afraid to express his opinion on the future of the Bangladesh Premier League. If he were elected president of the board on a permanent basis, he would not continue to stage the tournament just for the sake of it, he said.
Tamim said the issue is franchise selection, as payment issues have arisen in all 14 years the BPL has been in operation. The only way to fix it is to become financially stable and a reputable franchise.
He also said he is willing to accept foreign investors and franchise owners from existing leagues, as Bangladesh is a comparatively low-cost market, and if managed properly, it can be profitable for all.
Tamim also said that the people behind the controversies in the previous edition would be held responsible, including former board officials who approved the franchise agreements despite reports of warnings.
### What This Means for the Future of BPL
The BCB Integrity Unit, established in November 2025, stated that more charges are expected in the next few weeks as investigations of other cases proceed. This suggests a broader crackdown is underway.
- The unit is focusing on all levels of corruption, from players to franchise owners.
- They're using an exclusion order policy to ban individuals indefinitely.
- Tamim's call for financial stability and foreign investment could reshape the league.
It's a pivotal moment for Bangladesh cricket. The BCB is sending a clear message: corruption won't be tolerated, and they're willing to make big changes to protect the sport's integrity. Fans can expect more developments soon as the investigation continues to unfold.
