India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has become the world's No. 1-ranked T20I batter, overtaking teammate Abhishek Sharma in the latest ICC Player Rankings. The update came after India's 2-0 T20I series defeat to Ireland in Belfast.
### Ishan Kishan Overtakes Abhishek Sharma in Latest ICC Rankings
India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has surged to the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings, pushing teammate Abhishek Sharma into second place. The updated rankings, released Wednesday, follow India's 2-0 T20I series loss to Ireland in Belfast.
Kishan's rise to No. 1 comes after a stellar run in the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year, where he racked up 317 runs at a blistering strike rate of nearly 200. That included a Player of the Match performance against Pakistan in Colombo. With this achievement, Kishan becomes just the fourth Indian men's batter to reach the top spot in T20I rankings, joining legends like Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.
Abhishek Sharma, who held the No. 1 spot for nearly a year, now trails Kishan by only seven rating points. That means the top spot could flip again soon, depending on upcoming matches.
### Other Movers in the T20I Rankings
It wasn't just about Kishan and Sharma. Ireland's players made notable gains too after their series against India:
- Lorcan Tucker, Ireland's captain, jumped four places to joint 77th in the batting rankings.
- Ross Adair climbed six spots to 84th after strong showings with the bat.
- On the bowling side, Matthew Humphreys rose one place to 25th after taking four wickets in the series, hitting a career-best rating.
Among all-rounders, India's Shivam Dube advanced three spots to seventh. Ireland's Gareth Delany and Harry Tector also moved up, to 24th and 38th respectively.
### Travis Head Becomes No. 1 Test Batter
Switching to the longer format, Australia's Travis Head has claimed the No. 1 spot in ICC Test batting rankings for the first time in his career. He replaces England's Harry Brook, who dropped to second after a modest performance in the Nottingham Test against New Zealand. Joe Root also slipped two places to third.
India's Jasprit Bumrah reclaimed the sole No. 1 position among Test bowlers after New Zealand's Matt Henry fell to second. Bumrah's consistency with the ball has been a huge asset for India in recent series.
New Zealand's big win over England at Trent Bridge lifted several of their batters in the rankings:
- Rachin Ravindra moved up two places to seventh.
- Daryl Mitchell jumped five spots to 11th.
- Devon Conway shot up 14 places to joint 15th.
- Tom Latham rose 12 places to joint 31st.
### Bowling and All-Rounder Rankings Updates
In the bowling department, New Zealand pacer Nathan Smith improved eight places to 38th among Test bowlers. England's Ben Stokes moved up two spots to finish his international career at No. 3 in the Test all-rounder rankings, following his retirement mid-match.
West Indies pacers Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach also gained ground after their team's win over Sri Lanka in Antigua. Joseph climbed nine places to joint 14th in the bowling rankings, while Roach moved up four spots to 17th.
### What This Means for Fans
These ranking shifts show just how competitive international cricket is right now. With Kishan leading the T20I pack and Head taking over in Tests, fans have plenty to watch for in upcoming series. Keep an eye on the rankings—they could change again fast.
