Teams also had to decide whether their Under-23 pick could actually hold a spot in a competitive T20 eleven. The smarter franchises drafted youngsters who could genuinely contribute — balancing development with results. The ones who just ticked a box probably won't do as well. ### LPL Draft 2026: Teams, Pre-Signings and Squad Breakdown The draft itself ran for just under four hours. Each franchise had to build a squad of at least 18 players across 14 mandatory rounds, with two optional extra rounds available. Players were split into five price categories: - Platinum: $50,000 - Gold: $30,000 - Classic: $20,000 - Associate: $15,000 - Emerging Under-23: $10,000 There were separate brackets for local and overseas players. And four out of five franchises came in with new identities. Jaffna is now SC Jaffna Kings, Galle is Galle Gallants, Kandy plays as Kandy Royals, and Colombo is Colombo Kaps. Only Dambulla Sixers kept their name. Some big names were pre-signed before the draft. Shakib Al Hasan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Moeen Ali, Kamindu Mendis, and Dushmantha Chameera are all locked in. Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka went in the first round, even though both are outside Sri Lanka's current T20 setup. But there are question marks too.
