T Natarajan is back at Sunrisers Hyderabad after accepting a 53.49% pay cut, while Zeeshan Ansari heads to Delhi Capitals. Here's what the trade really means for both franchises.
The Indian Premier League doesn't usually do drama in October. But on October 14, 2026, the league confirmed a trade that raised plenty of eyebrows: T Natarajan is heading back to Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Zeeshan Ansari is packing his bags for Delhi Capitals.
On paper, it looks like a simple swap. Dig a little deeper, though, and you'll find a story about money, second chances, and two franchises trying to solve very different problems.
### What Actually Happened
Here's the short version. Natarajan returns to SRH on a revised contract worth roughly $600,000 (5 crore rupees). Delhi Capitals, in turn, pick up Ansari at his existing fee of about $48,000 (40 lakh rupees).
Both teams walked away feeling like they got what they needed. SRH gets back a bowler they know inside and out. Delhi frees up serious purse space ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction in Goa, set for mid-December 2026. The retention deadline lands on November 15, 2026, so the clock is already ticking.
### The Money Side Is Wild
This is where things get interesting. Delhi originally bought Natarajan for about $1.29 million (10.75 crore rupees) at the 2025 mega auction. Trading him at $600,000 and taking on Ansari's modest salary means Delhi effectively added around $1.24 million (10.35 crore rupees) back into their auction purse.
That's not pocket change. That's a rebuild fund.
Meanwhile, Natarajan accepted a 53.49 percent pay cut to rejoin his old team. Sunrisers, for their part, absorbed a net purse deduction of about $552,000 (4.6 crore rupees) to bring him home. The trade window opened right after the 2026 season and stays open until a week before the mini-auction.
### Why SRH Wanted Natarajan Back
Natarajan wore the SRH jersey from 2020 to 2024, and fans remember him fondly. The 35-year-old left-arm pacer built his reputation on pinpoint yorkers, sneaky slower balls, and bouncers that arrive faster than you expect.
His first stint tells the story: 65 wickets across 55 innings at an economy of 8.82. In 2024 alone, he took 19 wickets in 14 matches and finished as SRH's leading wicket-taker under Pat Cummins.
> "Mana Nattu thirigochadu" โ the SRH social team summed it up perfectly. Our Nattu is back.
His Delhi chapter was rougher. A fractured collarbone limited him to just two appearances in 2025. He returned for 10 matches in 2026 but managed only five wickets at an average of 71.20 and an economy of 11.18. Across two seasons in Delhi colors, that's 12 matches and five wickets total. Not the farewell anyone wanted.
### What Ansari Brings to Delhi
Zeeshan Ansari is a different kind of bet. He made his IPL debut for SRH against Delhi in 2025 and immediately made noise, dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, and KL Rahul in a spell of three for 42.
His debut season produced six wickets in 10 matches at an average of 55.50. SRH retained him for 2026, but he never got a game. Domestic cricket, though, has been kind to him:
- 24 wickets for Meerut Mavericks in the 2024 UP T20 League
- 15 wickets in the 2025 edition
- 21 wickets in the 2025โ26 Vijay Hazare Trophy
He'll slot into a Delhi spin attack alongside Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam, giving the Capitals some genuine depth on slower surfaces.
### The Bigger Picture
Trades like this rarely happen in a vacuum. SRH needed experience in their pace attack and knows exactly what Natarajan can do. Delhi needed financial flexibility and a young spinner with upside. Both sides got something.
Whether it works out is another question. Natarajan has to prove his body can hold up through a full season. Ansari has to show he can convert domestic form into IPL wickets. And both franchises will be judged on how they spend the money this trade freed up.
For now, the deal is done, the purse is set, and the auction is coming. Cricket fans in the U.S. can follow all the IPL action and betting markets through trusted platforms as the 2027 season takes shape.
