Pakistan Champions have withdrawn from the World Championship of Legends 2026 after the PCB refused to issue NOCs. The team, led by Shahid Afridi, was set to compete but the board's ban stands.
Pakistan Champions are out of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2026. The team withdrew after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to issue No-Objection Certificates (NOCs). The tournament started on October 3, but Pakistan's opening match against Bangladesh was postponed while organizers tried to find a solution. In the end, no deal was reached.
### Pakistan Champions Confirm Their Exit
In a statement, the franchise said it couldn't take part because the PCB held firm on its refusal. Owner Kamil Khan had formally asked the board to reconsider and stayed in talks throughout. The team expressed respect for the PCB's authority but also disappointment that players wouldn't get to represent Pakistan Champions.
They thanked players, supporters, and fans for their patience and continued backing. It's a tough blow for a squad that finished runners-up to South Africa last year.
### Who Was on the Team?
Shahid Afridi was set to captain the side. The squad also included big names like Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Wahab Riaz. These are players who've given Pakistani cricket fans plenty to cheer about over the years. Not seeing them on the field is a real letdown.
### PCB's Stance Hasn't Changed
The PCB's position goes back to a statement from last year. The board accused the WCL of "hypocrisy and bias" and said it would no longer allow participation. They argued the competition mixed politics with sport and announced a blanket ban on Pakistan's future involvement.
Even as the WCL worked to secure NOCs, the board didn't budge. The deadlock continued through the opening days of the tournament, and no agreement emerged.
### Why the PCB Objected
The dispute started when India withdrew from two matches against Pakistan in last year's edition, including a semi-final. Pakistan got a walkover in that semi-final.
But the PCB was particularly upset about another decision. India pulled out of a group-stage match against Pakistan, and organizers still awarded India a point. The board called that "an unacceptable message to the international sporting community."
### How the Schedule Was Affected
The tournament opened on October 3 with India vs. Australia. Pakistan's match against Bangladesh was put on hold, and organizers were willing to reschedule Pakistan's games while the NOC process continued.
That plan fell apart when Australia were due to face Pakistan on Monday. With no clearance, it became clear the issue couldn't be resolved in time. Pakistan Champions confirmed their withdrawal shortly after.
The WCL hasn't announced how it will adjust the fixture list or handle points from the postponed matches.

### What's Next?
For now, Pakistan's absence leaves a gap in the tournament. Fans are left wondering what could have been. And the bigger question remains: will this ban ever be lifted?
