Pakistan Champions have withdrawn from the World Championship of Legends 2026 after the PCB refused to issue NOCs. The decision leaves the tournament without a key team and raises questions about the PCB's stance on the event.
Pakistan Champions have officially pulled out of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2026 after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to issue No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the team. The tournament kicked off on October 3, and Pakistan's opening match against Bangladesh was put on hold while organisers scrambled to find a solution.
### Pakistan Champions Confirm Exit From WCL 2026
The franchise announced its decision, stating the team can't participate in the ongoing event because the PCB held firm on its refusal to grant the required NOC. Owner Kamil Khan had formally asked the board to reconsider and stayed in talks over the team's participation.
In a statement, the franchise said it respects the PCB's authority and its decision, but expressed disappointment that the players won't get to represent Pakistan Champions at the event. They also thanked players, supporters, and fans for their patience and continued backing.
Shahid Afridi was set to captain the side. The squad also included Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Wahab Riaz, among others. Pakistan finished runners-up to South Africa in last year's tournament.
### PCB Stance on WCL Participation Remains Unchanged
The board's position goes back to a statement it issued last year, in which it accused the WCL of "hypocrisy and bias" and said it would no longer condone participation in the event. The PCB argued the competition had mixed politics with sport and announced a blanket ban on Pakistan's future participation.
The board held to that view even as the WCL worked to secure NOCs for the Pakistan side. The deadlock continued through the opening days of the tournament, and no agreement emerged. Cricinfo has contacted the PCB for comment.
### Why the PCB Objected to the WCL
The dispute started when India withdrew from two matches against Pakistan in last year's edition, one of them the semi-final. Pakistan received a walkover in the semi-final.
The PCB took particular offence at a separate decision. India pulled out of a group-stage fixture against Pakistan, and the organisers still awarded India a point. The board described that ruling as "an unacceptable message to the international sporting community."
### WCL Schedule Affected by Pakistan's Absence
The tournament opened on October 3 with a game between India and Australia. Pakistan's match against Bangladesh was then put on hold, and Cricinfo learned that the organisers were willing to reschedule Pakistan's games while the NOC process continued.
That plan ended when Australia were due to face Pakistan on Monday. With no clearance in place, it became clear that the organisers couldn't resolve the issue in time, and Pakistan Champions confirmed their withdrawal shortly afterwards.
The WCL has not yet announced how it will adjust the fixture list or handle the points from the postponed matches.
> "It's a tough pill to swallow for the players and fans, but the PCB's decision left us with no choice," a franchise spokesperson said.
