The Pakistan Super League is exploring a six-a-side tournament to generate additional revenue and expand its brand. CEO Salman Naseer reveals early plans, but scheduling remains a challenge.

The Pakistan Super League is thinking about adding a six-a-side tournament to its calendar. League CEO Salman Naseer shared the idea during a recent podcast, and while nothing is set in stone, it's got people talking. The Pakistan Cricket Board hopes this new event will bring in extra revenue and keep the PSL brand alive all year round. ### What Exactly Is the Plan? Naseer described the proposal as "exciting" but stressed that it's still early days. The tournament would likely be called HBL PSL Sixes and would take place in the off-season. Think of it like the Hong Kong Sixes – fast, fun, and packed with action. The PCB wants to use this format to reach cities that haven't hosted PSL matches yet. Since six-a-side games are shorter and need fewer players, they're easier to organize and could travel to smaller venues. > "Nothing is finalised, but there are some exciting plans, and one of them is a sixes tournament," Naseer said on the podcast. ### Why Is the PCB Doing This? The PCB has been looking for ways to keep the PSL brand active throughout the year. A six-a-side tournament fits that goal perfectly. It's quick, it's exciting, and it can be played in more places. Plus, it opens up new revenue streams. The board has already discussed adding the event within the existing rights agreement, with franchises and media partners sharing the profits. ### The Big Challenge: Finding a Window Of course, there's a catch. Scheduling is a nightmare. International cricket is packed, and franchise leagues around the world are fighting for the same players. The PCB hasn't announced any dates yet, and they'll need to find a slot when overseas players are available. The main PSL tournament already faces scheduling conflicts – the 2027 edition will clash with the IPL for the third year in a row. Talks about moving the PSL to January are ongoing, but nothing's been decided. ### What's Next? The governing council is expected to confirm the schedule for next year's PSL soon. They'll also set dates and a venue for the player auction. Any decision on the sixes tournament will likely come after those matters are settled. For now, fans can only wait and hope. If it happens, it could be a game-changer for cricket in Pakistan. For more cricket news and updates, visit JeetWin Blog!
