Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss New Zealand's ODI series against India due to injuries. Tim Seifert, Henry Nicholls and Dean Foxcroft come into the squad as replacements.
Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss New Zealand's five-match ODI series against India. Both need more time to recover from injuries. New Zealand have named replacements, with Tim Seifert, Henry Nicholls and Dean Foxcroft all brought into the squad.
### Injury Updates on Chapman and Ravindra
An MRI scan showed that Chapman's left hamstring needs another two weeks of rehabilitation. He tore the hamstring at the European T20 Premier League in September. Ravindra's right shoulder has not yet healed enough for him to field at full capacity. He hurt the shoulder during a promotional shoot in September. New Zealand have also kept his workload in mind with a Test series scheduled for later this month.
Head coach Rob Walter said the team is disappointed to lose both players. He explained that Chapman is working hard to get back on the field after the two spoke last week. On Ravindra, Walter said the team does not want to take any unnecessary risks with the Test series approaching.
### New Zealand Squad Changes for India ODIs
Seifert, who was originally named only for the last two ODIs, is now part of the squad for the entire series. Nicholls, who turns 35 this month, joins for the first three matches. Foxcroft, who is currently playing in the red-ball series between New Zealand A and India A, will link up for the final two games.
Nicholls returns after scoring 119 while opening the batting for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy on Saturday. He has played 92 ODIs for New Zealand and was part of the squad that toured the West Indies in July. Matthew Fisher was initially picked for the last two games only, but he has now been included for the full series as an additional bowling option. Matt Henry, who was ruled out midway through the T20I series against India, joined the ODI squad on Monday. The team management will assess whether he is fit to play.
### New Zealand's Updated ODI Squad
The first three ODIs will be played by Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young and Blair Tickner. The squad for the last two ODIs includes Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Duffy, Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Hay (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Seifert (wicketkeeper), Tickner and Young.
The first ODI will be played at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4. India's squad for the series has also seen changes, with Ishan Kishan set to serve as vice-captain for the fourth and fifth games once Test players depart to join the red-ball group.
> "It's tough to lose two key players, but it gives others a chance to step up," said coach Rob Walter. "We're confident in the depth of our squad."
