The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the 2027 ODI World Cup final on Nov 21, 2027, plus the India vs Pakistan group stage clash on Oct 10. Full schedule inside.
### Johannesburg Takes Center Stage
Mark your calendars. The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup final on November 21, 2027. And that's not all โ the iconic venue also gets the group stage showdown between India and Pakistan on October 10, 2027.
The ICC dropped the full schedule on October 1, 2026. It's the kind of announcement that makes cricket fans start planning trips years in advance.
### Three Hosts, Twelve Venues, 57 Matches
South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia are teaming up to co-host the tournament. It all runs from October 2 to November 21, 2027, spread across 12 venues. Fourteen teams will battle for the trophy.
Here's the thing โ the 50-over World Cup hasn't been on African soil in 24 years. That alone makes this edition special.
### Opening Fixtures You Can't Miss
The group stage kicks off with a bang on October 7, 2027. India faces defending champions Australia at Newlands in Cape Town โ a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final. Three days later, India and Pakistan square off at the Wanderers.
Other early fixtures:
- Pakistan opens against Afghanistan in Tshwane on October 8, 2027
- South Africa starts Group B against New Zealand in Cape Town on October 9, 2027
- Zimbabwe launches its Group A campaign against Afghanistan in Bulawayo on October 11, 2027
Before all that, Windhoek in Namibia hosts a three-team Super Series from October 2 to 6, 2027. That round decides the final entrant for the main draw.
### How the Groups Shape Up
The 14 teams are split into two pools of six:
- **Group A:** India, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe (co-host), Qualifier A
- **Group B:** South Africa (co-host), England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Qualifier B
The top three from each group, plus the best fourth-placed team, move to the Super 7 phase. The ICC has already set seedings: India (A1), Australia (A2), Pakistan (A3), England (AB4), New Zealand (B1), South Africa (B2), Sri Lanka (B3).
If an unseeded team qualifies, it takes the seeding of the eliminated side. That opens the door for a potential second India vs Pakistan clash in Cape Town on November 7, 2027.
### Who's Already In?
Ten teams locked up automatic spots by September 30, 2026. South Africa and Zimbabwe got in as co-hosts. Eight others โ India, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh โ qualified via ODI rankings.
Namibia didn't get an automatic berth because it's an associate member, not a full ICC member. The team must go through the qualifier route.
A ten-team qualifier tournament runs from February 22 to March 23, 2027. The winner goes straight to the main group stage. The losing finalist and two losing semi-finalists will have another shot โ but that's a story for another day.
> "The Wanderers is set for another World Cup final!" โ that's the buzz echoing through Johannesburg right now.
For fans in the United States, this is your early heads-up. Flights to South Africa won't get cheaper, and accommodation near the Wanderers will vanish fast. The 2027 World Cup is shaping up to be a once-in-a-generation event. Don't sleep on it.
