The Wanderers Stadium will host the 2027 ODI World Cup final on November 21, 2027, plus the India vs Pakistan group clash on October 10. Here's the full schedule breakdown.
The International Cricket Council dropped its full schedule for the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup on October 1, 2026, and cricket fans finally have something concrete to circle on the calendar. The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the final on November 21, 2027. Before that, it'll stage the group-stage clash everyone waits for: India versus Pakistan on October 10, 2027.
South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia are co-hosting the 57-match tournament, running from October 2 to November 21, 2027, across 12 venues. Fourteen teams will chase the trophy. And here's the part that hits differently โ the 50-over World Cup returns to African soil for the first time in 24 years.
### Opening Fixtures Worth Marking Down
The group stage kicks off with a rematch of the 2023 final. On October 7, 2027, India faces defending champions Australia at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Three days later, India and Pakistan meet at the Wanderers.
Pakistan opens its campaign against Afghanistan in Tshwane on October 8, 2027. Co-hosts South Africa start Group B against New Zealand in Cape Town on October 9, replaying their 2026 T20 World Cup semi-final. Zimbabwe launches its Group A fixtures against Afghanistan in Bulawayo on October 11.
Before any of that, Windhoek in Namibia hosts a three-team Super Series from October 2 to 6, 2027. That round decides the final entrant into the main draw.
### How the Groups and Super 7 Work
The 14 teams split into two pools of six. Group A: India, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and Qualifier A. Group B: South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Qualifier B.
The top three from each group advance, plus the best fourth-placed side across both pools. The ICC set pre-tournament seedings for the Super 7 phase:
- India (A1)
- Australia (A2)
- Pakistan (A3)
- England (AB4)
- New Zealand (B1)
- South Africa (B2)
- Sri Lanka (B3)
If an unseeded team qualifies, it inherits the seeding of the eliminated side. That structure leaves the door open for a second India-Pakistan meeting in Cape Town on November 7, 2027, during the Super 7.
### Who's Already In โ and Who's Still Fighting
Ten of the 14 teams locked in automatic qualification by the September 30, 2026 cut-off. South Africa and Zimbabwe got host berths. India, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh qualified through their ODI rankings.
Namibia didn't get an automatic spot โ the country holds associate member status, not full ICC membership. So Namibia has to earn its way through the qualifier route.
Ten teams will battle in a qualifier tournament from February 22 to March 23, 2027. The winner walks straight into the main group stage. The losing finalist and the two losing semi-finalists continue through the qualification pathway.
It's a schedule built for drama, and the Wanderers โ a ground with real history โ gets the biggest night of all.
