Delhi Capitals have named Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027. The former India all-rounder joins Sourav Ganguly's coaching staff in his first formal coaching role.

Delhi Capitals have appointed former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as their assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027. The announcement came on Tuesday, just a week after the franchise confirmed Sourav Ganguly as head coach. ### Yuvraj's First Formal Coaching Role For Yuvraj, this is his first official coaching position. He'll work alongside Ganguly in the senior coaching group. Reports from June had already hinted that both men would join the franchise in key roles. In a statement released by the team, Yuvraj expressed his excitement: "I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals." He also mentioned his long association with the franchise and his familiarity with the owners. "I look forward to teaming up with Ganguly, this time as coaches," he added. "I'm passionate about coaching and eager to start working with the squad." Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment. He called Yuvraj "one of Indian cricket's greatest match-winners" and highlighted his role in mentoring many young talents. According to Jindal, Yuvraj's experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be a huge asset. He described the return as "a special moment for everyone linked with the franchise." ### Yuvraj's Past Association with Delhi Capitals Yuvraj is no stranger to the franchise. Back in 2015, Delhi Daredevils (as they were then known) bought him for INR 16 crore (approximately $2.1 million), making him the most expensive player in IPL history at that time. He played 14 matches that season, scoring 248 runs and taking one wicket. Overall, Yuvraj appeared in 132 IPL matches, amassing 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets. He also represented India in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests, and 58 T20Is, and was part of the World Cup-winning squad. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2019. Several Indian batters have credited Yuvraj for helping their development in recent years. Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh are among them. Even Rishabh Pant, the former Capitals captain, sought his advice during a rough patch. Pant has since returned to Delhi via a trade with Lucknow Super Giants, with wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav moving the other way. ### Coaching Changes Ahead of IPL 2027 Ganguly replaced Hemang Badani as head coach. This change stems from an agreement between the franchise's co-owners, GMR Sports and JSW Sports, who decided after IPL 2024 that each group would run operations in alternating two-year cycles. GMR's term ended in 2026, and JSW is now in charge. Delhi Capitals are still chasing their first IPL title. They reached the final once, in 2020, but have missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. The new coaching duo will be aiming to change that when the 2027 campaign begins. > "Yuvraj's experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will help the squad." – Parth Jindal, Capitals chairman With Yuvraj and Ganguly at the helm, Delhi fans have reason for optimism. But can they finally deliver a championship? Only time will tell. For more cricket news and updates, visit JeetWin Blog!
