Delhi Capitals have named Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027, teaming up with Sourav Ganguly. Can this legendary duo end their title drought?

Delhi Capitals have appointed former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as their assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027. The announcement came on Tuesday, just a week after the franchise confirmed Sourav Ganguly as head coach. The duo will now lead the team's coaching staff, marking a new era for the Capitals. ### Yuvraj Singh's First Formal Coaching Role Yuvraj steps into his first official coaching position, working alongside Ganguly in the senior coaching group. Reports from June had already hinted that both men would join the franchise in key roles. In a statement released by the team, Yuvraj expressed his excitement: "I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals." He also mentioned his long association with the franchise and his eagerness to work with the squad. ### A Warm Welcome from the Franchise Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment, calling Yuvraj one of Indian cricket's greatest match-winners. He highlighted Yuvraj's experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players as key assets for the squad. Jindal described the return as a special moment for everyone linked with the franchise. ### Yuvraj's Past Association with Delhi Capitals Yuvraj has played for the franchise before. Delhi, then known as Delhi Daredevils, bought him for INR 16 crore (approximately $2.1 million) ahead of the 2015 season, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at that time. He played 14 matches that year, scoring 248 runs and taking one wicket. Across his IPL career, Yuvraj appeared in 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets. He also represented India in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests, and 58 T20Is, and was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2019. ### Mentorship That Shaped Modern Stars Several Indian batters have credited Yuvraj for helping their development in recent years. Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh are among those who have benefited from his guidance. Even Rishabh Pant, the former Capitals captain, sought his advice during a rough patch. Pant has since returned to Delhi via a trade with Lucknow Super Giants, with wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav moving the other way. ### Coaching Changes and the Road Ahead Ganguly replaced Hemang Badani as head coach, following an arrangement between the franchise's co-owners, GMR Sports and JSW Sports. They agreed after IPL 2024 that each group would run operations in alternating two-year cycles. GMR's term ended in 2026, and JSW now takes charge. Delhi are still chasing their first IPL title. They reached the final once, in 2020, but missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. The new coaching group will aim to turn things around when the 2027 campaign begins. > "I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals." – Yuvraj Singh For more cricket news and updates, visit JeetWin Blog!
